Information Salad - Episode #6

We had some issues with Bellsouth and Skype, so you may hear some echos and notice some delays in our conversation, but heck, the show is so full of content, you might not even notice. Here are some of the things we talked about this week.

  • Blackberry 8700g - Slobokan’s new toy.
  • Blackberry 7230 - Slobokan’s old toy.
  • Motorola MPx220 - Slobokan’s old smart phone, that wasn’t so smart.
  • T-Mobile MDA - Vinny’s new toy.
  • IMPlus - A third party application for Instant Messaging via the Blackberry.
  • T-Mobile - Slobokan’s cellular provider of choice, which provides excellent customer service.
  • Hell’s Kitchen - Vinny and I discuss the latest developments on Hell’s Kitchen and make our prediction for Monday night’s show.
  • World to End on August 22 - Time will only tell if this is true…

“What is the significance of August 22? This year, August 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to ‘the farthest mosque’, usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back (cf, Koran XVII.1). This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and, if necessary, of the world.”

  • Dixie Chicks: Accommodating Demand? - Slow ticket sales in the U.S. send the Dixie Chicks to more shows in Canada. Is it their anti-war message or the alienation of their customers causing the slow sales?
  • Terrorists Wanted To Use Liquids - We discuss the foiled terrorist plot in London.Boing Boing had a great point on the story, though.
  • A Trip Down Memory Lane - If it’s this simple for two people working at a newspaper to find someone based solely on their “anonymous” search queries, what do you think will happen if the government, using computers, takes a stab at it? Was this a “planned” release by AOL?
  • Ubuntu 6.06.1 Released - A maintenance release with over 300 bug and security fixes.
  • WWDC 2006 - Vinny discusses the big news from the World Wide Developer’s Conference.

As usual, on the first day of its Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple CEO Steve Jobs took to the stage to highlight new products, this year including two new 64-bit Intel Xeon-based systems, Mac Pro and Xserve. The company also demonstrated ten Leopard features in all, but stayed true to its intent to keep most details about the upcoming OS secret. “Clearly, Apple’s been busy. It’s hard to believe that Leopard will ship next spring, but Apple aims to ruin Vista’s chance of gaining early traction.”

  • Mike Douglas Dies - Slobokan remembers the good old days.

Mike Douglas, whose affable personality and singing talent earned him 21 years as a television talk show host, died Friday on his 81st birthday.

  • Jimmie Johnson Foundation announced a commitment to raise $600,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, for the bowling alley, Victory Lanes, and Lowes, his sponsor donated half of it upon his announcement. You can buy a commemorative coin at for $48.Dale Jr. made it back into the top ten after last week’s race at the Brickyard.

Jeremy Mayfield is OUT of the #19 car, and is seeking a legal injunction against his termination.

I’m Not The Only One” - Finally! Someone else notices the lack of respect during the National Anthem.

A reader of a Yahoo! Sports column calls out Kevin Harvick’s wife, Delana, for not taking her hat off during the National anthem. I will speak about this, and the fact that Title 36 of the U.S. Code spells out exactly what should be done at the time the anthem is played.

Information Salad - Episode #5 (iTunes Retarded Edition)

It seems iTunes has an issue with PDF files being linked in a post where a podcast is released… So…

For those of you using iTunes, here is another post with the link to the podcast that everyone else got to listen too 18 hours ago.

If you want to see the show notes, you can read them in the post preceeding this one (for those of you on iTunes, its the post with the pdf file that iTunes thought was content you could listen to).
